At a meeting of the Joint Transportation Board on 6 December
2011 at Dartford Borough Council it emerged that more than two hundred (200) vehicles
have been removed from Greenhithe streets thereby improving traffic movement
and safety related pressures they had caused. It is therefore clear that the introduction
of CPZs have been effective in deterring commuter parking in residential
streets.
However what the report failed to mention was the positive impact the
pay and display regime was also having on the Public Car Parks which has
had the effect of freeing up additional visitor parking. In total we understand that there are nearly
Six Hundred (600) less commuter related vehicles parked in and around the Streets
near to Greenhithe Railway Station each day. This is clearly welcome news and a job
well done resulting from the Councils efforts, which many of our members believe
would never have come to fruition had it not been for the marina planning
application. A copy of the full report
that went before the Joint Transportation Board can be downloaded via the following link: Chairman’s Update
Greenhithe Parking Review
The images below taken mid-morning show just how much parking space is available at Greenhithe during the week. Many residents will remember that prior to the introduction of on-street parking controls, all previously available Public Car Parking spaces and those on the surrounding streets were occupied by commuters.
Thanks for this reply but you'll have to forgive us for not sharing your views on how wonderful the on-street-parking controls are. Everyday our members living on the High Street and Pier Road suffer from the blight of commuter parking during the day and then at night from drunken idiots using the Pier Hotel PH. A Marina at Greenhithe will only make it worse for locals!
ReplyDelete@The Greenhithe Community Group: It is clear from the Councils report Agenda Item 7 JOINT TRANSPORTATION BOARD 06 DECEMBER 2011 below that your members did not support the original parking controls proposed by the Council.
ReplyDeleteAs we understand it, your members choose to take the advice of one Mr Carrington; clearly if that is the case then his advice was flawed.
The minutes of the Councils report states: "Pier Road and High Street: Residents here did not support the initial parking management proposals and following discussions the proposals were deleted. Residents now report increased parking related problems and have requested a parking management scheme.
A permit parking scheme has been requested for households without off-street parking provision in Pier Road (eligible households from Nos. 1 to 3) and High Street (eligible households from even Nos. 2 to 18 and odd Nos. 1 to 5)".
Despite there being little or no evidence to support your case and regardless of what you say about us, particularly those of us that enjoy a pint or two in the delightful Pier Hotel PH, GMRA members will support your efforts, and like you, we agree, as we did previously, that residents living on Pier Road and High Street without any available off street parking should be made a priority for a residents permit parking scheme. We trust you find this response reasonable and please do not refer to customers of the Pier Hotel as Drunken Idiots as it’s insulting to say the least to drunks! :)
