East Coast - LSC RYA Day Skipper Practical

Sailing Miles an East Coast RYA Training Centre is offering GMRA members of the London Sailing Club a special rate to complete the Day Skipper Practical Course.

Cost to GMRA members of LSC: £450 per crew as long as a minimum of 3 members take up the offer. The price includes all food, accommodation, marina fees, fuel and tuition. Only additional costs will be any meals and drinks you decide to take ashore.

This course is for those with some sailing experience who would like to learn how to take on the responsibility of skippering and navigating a yacht safely on short passages in tidal waters.

On satisfactory completion of the course you'll receive an RYA Day Skipper Practical certificate.

• During the course you will learn how to:
• Prepare a yacht ready for a sea passage
• Check a yachts engine and equipment for serviceability
• Apply the sailing rules of the road
• Plan short passages
• Navigate and pilot a yacht during daylight and night hours
• Handle a yacht both under power and sail on open water and when berthing
• Manage and communicate with other crew members

Prerequisites: 5 days and 100 miles sailing on board a yacht including at least 4 night hours. You must have basic navigation skills to the level of Day Skipper Theory, and be able to helm.

• Duration: The course will be run over 5 days with overnight accommodation on board the yacht. 
• Joining the boat on Friday night at Bradwell marina. 
• Trains can be taken from Liverpool Street to Southminster, where a member of LSC will collect you and transfer you to the boat by car.

Outcome: This course prepares you to skipper a pleasure yacht on short passages in tidal waters. Your knowledge and sailing experience will be recognised by the issuing of a course completion certificate.

Progression: This course prepares you for the RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Theory Course, and with a few more sailing miles under your belt, onto the RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Course.
